Association of Cardiac Injury With Mortality in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19 in Wuhan, China

This cohort study was conducted January 20 - February 10, 2020 at Renmin Hospital in Wuhan, China to assess the association between cardiac injury and mortality among all hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of the 416 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in the study, the 82 patients with cardiac injury were older (median age 74) and had more comorbidities and complications than patients without cardiac injury. A greater proportion of patients with cardiac injury required mechanical ventilation than patients without cardiac injury and patients with cardiac injury had higher mortality (51.2%) than patients without cardiac injury (4.5%).
